PROCESS
Skin Layers and Cellular Architecture
1.) Stratum Corneum
The first line of skin barrier defense, also determine the texture of the skin surface. Poor desquamation will lead to a rough and flaky skin.
2.) Stratum Granular
The last process in the journey of keratinization, dissolving desmosome preparing keratinocyte to desquamate and releasing lipids to prevent trans epidermal water loss.
3.) Stratum Spinosum
The largest layer in the epidermis, where keratinocytes tethered together to ensure strength and adhesion. Plays the most important role in inter cell communication.
4.) Stratum Basale
The layer where mitosis happen (cell differentiation), the health of the cell basale means the quality of the keratinocyte. It is the beginning of the life cycle.
5.) Dermis
The layer of Collagen, Elastin & GAG’s, maintaining the resistant and structural integrity in the tissue also the storage of nutrients for the epidermis.
